Coal refinancing in the Philippines with TransitionZero's CAT Tool
The primary barrier to closing coal plants in many markets is the presence of long-term supply agreements, coupled with a lack of open data on the financial implications of these agreements. This data is often confidential or difficult to access, leading to stakeholders having only partly-informed conversations about the cost of closure. This is especially true for the Philippines, where voluntary coal retirement has been identified as a crucial strategy under the Philippine Energy Transition Plan. TransitionZero’s new Coal Asset Transition (CAT) tool for the Philippines can play a crucial role in providing a reliable and comprehensive data source that will be vital for the initial screening of assets and enhancing engagement with stakeholders. Underpinned by data from over 200 power supply agreements, it offers comprehensive asset-level insights into the country’s coal fleet.
