WHAT WE DO
TransitionZero builds software to reduce the time to build clean energy at scale

The problem
As energy modelling experts, we have seen firsthand how data-driven decisions can accelerate energy planning. Today, the tools for effective energy planning are often based on closed, slow and expensive data and models operated by consulting firms.
Open source tools require deep technical expertise. Emerging markets and developing economies can better plan for — and implement — their own energy transition with modern, accessible energy systems modelling software.
That's where we step in.
Capacity, not dependency
Today’s business model for energy system planning creates dependency rather capacity. It is slow, opaque and expensive.
We combine advanced data science and market expertise to produce open access datasets that support accurate scenarios and forecasts.
We're building software for system modelling that enables governments and their stakeholders to build scenarios via an API or a no-code web UI.
We build knowledge and skills, helping governments and their stakeholders confidently use software for energy transition planning.

Our story
In 2021, Matt Gray, our Co-founder and CEO, co-led a team at the Carbon Tracker Initiative. They showed how computer vision and satellite imagery could help estimate greenhouse gas emissions from large fossil fuel facilities in regions where data is unavailable, infrequent or unreliable. This innovation-led and open-access approach to solving energy data problems informs our work today. Our team of software engineers, data scientists, and energy modellers support our market analysts and strategic partners. Together, we help governments plan to transform their economies through clean, affordable, and reliable energy.

Looking ahead
We want to become the industry standard for energy planning software globally. By some estimates, between now and 2030, the world needs to deploy five trillion dollars in electricity and AI infrastructure. This will fundamentally reshape the electricity sector, but only if planning tools keep pace. That's where we come in. We want Scenario Builder to close that gap.
