TransitionZero partners with Google.org to integrate AI into Scenario Builder and accelerate energy transition planning in Asia
Partnership focuses on developing AI-enabled modelling features and capacity building across Asia
TransitionZero and Google.org to:
- Develop AI-enabled modelling features for Scenario Builder to make grid modelling faster and easier for no-code users.
- Build institutional capacity by co-designing and delivering in-person training workshops across India, Malaysia, and Singapore to enable effective use of Scenario Builder.
- Partnership announced at Google’s AI for the Planet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
London, October 27, 2025 — To accelerate the global transition to clean energy, Google.org is providing climate analytics nonprofit, TransitionZero, with US$1.5 million in funding to develop an AI-powered tool to make clean energy planning more cost-effective and accessible. Starting with partnerships in countries including India, Malaysia and Singapore, this tool will help governments and organisations make smarter and faster decisions for crucial energy investments
TransitionZero and Google.org will develop AI-enabled modelling features for Scenario Builder to make energy system modelling faster and easier to use for non-technical users. They will support governments and planners by producing grid and demand-side analysis to inform clean energy planning and investment decisions, and build capacity by co-designing and delivering in-person training workshops across India, Malaysia, and Singapore to enable effective use of Scenario Builder.
Drawing on Google’s AI expertise and TransitionZero’s modelling software capabilities, the partnership will integrate Gemini-powered functionalities into Scenario Builder, enabling government agencies and planners to run simulations, evaluate costs, and design clean energy portfolios with greater speed and confidence.
Matthew Gray, CEO, TransitionZero, said:
“Asia needs vast amounts of electricity to meet its development priorities. Every electricity project depends on detailed grid modelling studies for planning and financing. These studies can take months or even years to complete when they should take days. This is the vision of the Scenario Builder platform. We're excited to work with Google to develop a clean energy portfolio optimiser that uses generative AI, helping Asian governments make better planning decisions faster.”
