Modelling 24/7 Carbon Free Electricity in Singapore
Singapore has set ambitious goals under the Singapore Green Plan 2030: peak emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050. But with 95% of its electricity coming from natural gas and limited land for domestic renewables, the city-state faces unique challenges. Imports and corporate procurement will play a decisive role.
At the heart of this transition is the shift from annual renewable energy certificate (REC) matching to 24/7 carbon-free electricity (CFE) — matching every hour of consumption with clean generation.
For Singapore’s industrial, logistics and services sectors, this approach is crucial to ensure real, verifiable emissions reductions while keeping the power system resilient.
Our analysis shows that moving to 24/7 CFE could lower fuel costs, cut emissions, and even strengthen Singapore’s competitiveness as a regional hub for multinationals.
