Free, no-code hourly dispatch modelling is here
Scenario Builder now bridges the gap between long-term investment planning and short-term operations modelling

Summary
Scenario Builder now allows users to run 8,760-hour dispatch and capacity expansion models together in one seamless workflow.
Validate investment plans hour-by-hour using transparent, open-source modelling packages (OSeMOSYS + PyPSA).
First release is now live for the Philippines, with all other Southeast Asian countries by year-end and more countries and major upgrades coming in Q1 2026.
Scenario Builder now bridges the gap between long-term investment planning and short-term operations modelling.
Users can now run granular, 8,760-hour dispatch scenarios to validate capacity outputs from long-term capacity expansion models in a single workflow.
Hourly dispatch modelling is available for the Philippines, with all other Southeast Asian countries by year-end and India, Japan and other countries being added in Q1 2026.
Long-term plans, operational realities
Dispatch modelling is essential because it reveals whether long-term investment plans can actually operate reliably in real systems. Capacity expansion models optimise the future build-out of generation, transmission and storage but, because of computational constraints, make simplifying assumptions about hourly operations. Dispatch models fill this gap by simulating every hour of the year, testing how the proposed capacity mix performs under real demand patterns, weather variability, renewable output, and system constraints.
When used together, capacity expansion models identify the least-cost long-term pathway, and dispatch models validate that pathway against operational realities – ensuring that what looks optimal on paper also works in practice. It is for this reason that we developed an interoperable data model that unifies the formats used for data and results, applying it to the case of TZ-OSeMOSYS and PyPSA.
Run 8760-hour dispatch models

Model your power system with 8,760-hour granularity and visualise hourly generation and storage. Control hourly demand, renewable profiles, emissions and capacity constraints to simulate weather years, policy scenarios and more.
Validate long-term investment plans, hour-by-hour
Watch how you can feed outputs from capacity expansion models directly into hourly dispatch scenarios. This workflow allows you to validate investment plans against operational realities, ensuring your projected capacity mix is feasible and reliable on an hourly basis.
Built on transparent, open-source foundations

Scenario Builder leverages OSeMOSYS for capacity expansion models and PyPSA for dispatch scenarios. These open-source frameworks allow you to audit methodologies and iterate off-platform without proprietary restrictions.

This is just the beginning

This is the first version of dispatch modelling on Scenario Builder. There are several limitations to note: input-editing capabilities and visualisations are still basic; the model uses a preconfigured weather year and does not yet allow full intra-year scenario looping or stochastic analysis; and network detail is simplified to the grid-region level. In Q1 2026, we’ll be adding new countries, improving input editing, adding results visualisations and more. We’d love to hear your feedback on what to add next.
