Solar Asset Mapper

TZ-SAM is an open-access, asset-level dataset of solar facilities, powered by machine learning

Solar Asset Mapper's (TZ-SAM) algorithm uses satellite data to detect small, commercial solar facilities at a global scale. Updated quarterly, the dataset contains over 19,000 km² of solar across 182 countries with a total estimated capacity of 705 GW. Our Q3 2024 update of TZ-SAM will be released in December.

THE PROBLEM

Rapid, decentralised solar deployment makes it challenging to accurately forecast growth

"The official data is rubbish. I cannot tell you how uncertain we are about how much solar is actually out there."
Jenny Chase, Lead Solar Analyst.
