Partnership focuses on supporting open modelling, transmission analysis and capacity building to accelerate grid investments
TransitionZero and Green Grids Initiative (GGI) to:
- Co-develop features and co-host workshops for Scenario Builder to support the uptake of GGI’s Climate Finance Principles.
- Promote grid investments by conducting analysis and co-convening events to support discussion on the topic.
- Collaborate on a new generation of open-source energy planning tools and software, working in partnership with key International Organisations
London, (October 20, 2025) — TransitionZero and the Green Grids Initiative (GGI) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to accelerate delivery of grid infrastructure that enables countries to meet their climate commitments. Established at COP26 in Glasgow, GGI convenes governments, financiers, companies, academics and civil society to build the grids needed to meet nationally determined contributions.
Drawing on GGI’s convening power, open-source modelling and capacity-building platforms, together with TransitionZero’s grid modelling expertise, activities include:
- Co-developing features on Scenario Builder, TransitionZero's free and open grid modelling platform, to support the uptake of GGI’s Climate Finance Principles.
- Co-convening capacity-building workshops to support members of GGI's Finance Working Group in using Scenario Builder.
- Promoting grid investments by conducting analysis and convening events to support discussions on the grid and transmission investments.
Matthew Gray, CEO, TransitionZero, said:
“Delivering clean, reliable, and affordable power at scale requires major investments in transmission. We are excited to support GGI and their newly launched Climate Finance Principles. By partnering with GGI, we can put open and accessible modelling tools into the hands of stakeholders who will play a vital role in driving grid investment worldwide.”
Marcus Stewart, Head of Secretariat, Green Grids Initative, said
“Expanding and improving grids is vital for growth, supplying reliable clean energy, and better lives. There is no transition without transmission. We are pleased to work with Transition Zero to provide essential data for investors and decision makers to drive this critical global agenda forward.”
