TransitionZero to partner on the Carbon Trust's Greenprint initiative
Pilot phase provides a systems-level approach to decarbonising emerging and developing economies
- Greenprint is a new initiative led by the Carbon Trust to help governments design secure, affordable, and decarbonised power systems by 2050.
- TransitionZero will provide system modelling software and asset-level data to support real-world planning and investment decisions.
- The initiative is seeking pilot countries in emerging markets to develop tailored, technically viable, and economically feasible transition pathways.
London, 16 June 2025: The Carbon Trust and TransitionZero have announced today they will be partnering on Greenprint, a new initiative designed to help governments in developing economies and emerging markets deliver secure, affordable, and fully decarbonised power systems by 2050.
Drawing on the Carbon Trust’s expertise in global energy sector decarbonisation and TransitionZero’s energy system modelling software and data, the pilot phase of Greenprint will set out a plan for a country to transition to clean power, while realising the strong socioeconomic benefits that come with a renewables-led energy system. A similar approach will be used to scale up decarbonisation efforts for other countries and regions, applying lessons learnt working on Greenprint.
Greenprint has four core stages, addressing all aspects of the energy system: power sector systems and scenario development, economic modelling and insights, policy and regulatory assessments and recommendations, and capacity building and planning. This systems-led approach is designed to set out routes to clean energy that are technically sound, economically feasible and socially inclusive, supporting just transition principles and local job creation.
TransitionZero will support Greenprint through its system modelling software and asset-level data, helping to inform real-world planning and investment decisions, and identifying practical, cost-effective low-carbon solutions to improve energy security.
In parallel to engaging with prospective pilot countries ready to address the challenges they face in transitioning to net zero, the Carbon Trust is in discussion with potential financial and philanthropic organisations interested in funding this transformative work.
Matthew Gray, Co-founder & CEO, TransitionZero, said:
Transition planning that doesn’t prioritise cost and security is unlikely to stand the test of time. We’re excited to support Carbon Trust to help build capacity in emerging markets by delivering accessible, stakeholder-led scenarios and analysis that countries can use independently to develop energy policy and secure transition finance.
Andrew Lever, Director at the Carbon Trust, said:
"A comprehensive, systems-led approach at a local level is needed for a country to have a pathway to decarbonising its power systems that works economically, socially and technically. Central to that is having the know-how to harness real world data to map what a future energy system will look like, which is why we’re excited to start working with TransitionZero on the pilot phase of Greenprint.
